When Peter lost his job we were devastated. Crying in the driveway, lost for weeks, completely demoralized, panicked. And yet, nearly a year later, we find ourselves brimming with thanks. Sure, we haven't paid taxes yet and it's not entirely clear if we've broken even this year, but where he has landed seems so much better than the job he was in. Seems strange that we were so tethered to his limited position in a struggling non-profit. This is all to say that the fear of "losing" a job is perhaps worse than the reality of doing so.
